Christine López

Born 1961, Chicago Illinois. BS in Biology DePaul University 1983. Moved to the Garden State for business before retiring to Puerto Rico in 2021.

I am a self taught artist who works mainly in pencil sketches, acrylic paint and watercolor. During my younger years I was fortunate enough to grow up near Arlington Park racecourse watching the thoroughbreds and was inspired to emulate the portraits of past racing champions and have developed a realistic artistic style. Later, I found little time for art for many years while focusing on my degree and career. It was only after making the move to the island that I started wanting to draw and paint again. I have sold watercolors, framed pencil sketches, acrylic paintings, and hand painted glassware at locations in Palmas Del Mar and exhibited a painting at Antigua Casa Alcaldía in Carolina Puerto Rico.

As an artist I hope to have others see the beauty of simple things that we may otherwise take for granted. The iridescence of a rooster or pigeon’s feather, the flared nostril of a competition Paso Fino executing its steps, the perfection and under appreciated beauty of an invasive species such as a house sparrow.

In addition to art, I enjoy cooking, birding, and riding my Paso Fino pleasure horse through the trails or to the local bar with my husband Jorge López.
