About the event

Description

This workshop is designed for beginners, to introduce the tactile process of using fabric as a medium to create art. Commonly called art quilt or fiber art.

Techniques demonstrated will be raw edge appliqué, reverse appliqué, fussy cutting and basic embroidery (thread sketching). A sample template is provided: a scene of a sandy beach, the water and the sky. Finished size is 8” x 10”

No sewing machine or previous sewing experience is required. Basic stitching will be taught. Those who wish can follow up after the workshop by hand sewing, machine sewing, or leaving the project as-is. Suggestions for finishing the project will be given.

The basics can be learned during the three-hours allotted time. However, participants are encouraged to work at their own pace and samples of additional techniques will be provided for those who work at a faster pace. The workshop teacher confesses she usually is the Last to Finish and usually does not Color Inside The Lines, Therefore, she will be available after the workshop for those who want further assistance on another day.

Supplies

Since most workshop participants don’t have fabric stashes, a kit with all necessary supplies has been assembled. Cost is $10 per person. Included is fabric, tiny scissors, thread, needles, needle-threader, glue stick, marking tool, pin cushion, framing mat. Participants who have sharp-pointed fabric scissors are encouraged to bring them. If you plan on purchasing a pair, look for scissors with approximately 2”-3” blades.

Location

The Captain's Shack has generously provided space for the workshop, at no charge. Participants are encouraged to purchase refreshments and snacks.
