Jorge Lopez Ayala

Born 1959, San Juan, Puerto Rico. BS in Chemistry and MS in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing. Moved to the the mainland seeking work opportunities and growth until retirement. Returned to Puerto Rico in 2021. Currently living in Palmas Del Mar with my wife Christine.

During high school I had the opportunity to join an art focused school in the Puerto Rico public school system where I was introduced to the basics of the plastic arts. Although I already had a strong interest in drawing this experience cemented a passion that endured through my whole life. But of course life gets in the way and it wasn’t until retirement that I was able to dedicate more fully to my passion. It was only after moving to the island and my introduction to the EEAG through my wife Christine, that I started drawing again. I have started exploring other media like watercolor, acrylics and mixed media inspired by the talents of members of the guild.

As a result I have been able to exhibit and sell acrylic paintings and hand painted glassware at locations in Palmas Del Mar and at Antigua Casa Alcaldía in Carolina Puerto Rico.

As an artist returning to his homeland after many years I’m inspired by the beauty of the island, its people and the culture. Not just the traditional scenes that we see in San Juan, or Ponce or the rain forest, but what a puertorrican sees as he/she lives their daily life. My style is
evolving as well as my interests as I’m fairly new to this experience. I tend to be very detailed and perfectionist so there is struggle and frustration in the process, but so many rewards!

In addition to art, I enjoy fitness activities, social and family gatherings, as well as birding, and riding with my wife Christine Lopez through the PR trails or to a friendly local bar.
